DES MOINES, IOWA (October 26, 2023) – LifeServe Blood Center shipped close to 50 blood products to hospitals in and around Lewiston, ME following the horrific mass shooting that occurred last night taking the lives of 18 people and injuring 13 more.

“Our thoughts are with the people of Maine who are dealing with this horrific situation,” shared Stacy Sime, LifeServe Blood Center CEO/President. “LifeServe Blood Center has shipped close to 50 blood products to hospitals in and around Lewiston, ME and continues to receive requests to help patients in need. LifeServe’s stewardship responsibility to ensure a strong, local blood supply allows us to share blood products to hospitals across the country that may not have access to a community blood supply.  The importance of a community blood supply is so crucially important not only in times like these, but every single day.”

LifeServe’s primary responsibility is to ensure our local blood supply is adequate for the needs of our regional hospital partners, but we will continue to help the people and hospitals in Maine as long as necessary. Generous and committed blood donors are the ones who allow us to maintain a safe and stable blood supply, so we are encouraging community members to schedule their life-saving appointment today.
