Memorial Day signals the beginning of a bustling summer period, leading to heightened demand for blood products in our hospitals. Join LifeServe as we honor those who have served at our Memorial Day Iowa Gold Star Museum Blood Drive on May 27 from 7am to 12pm. Enjoy a family-friendly event with free breakfast, live music, and more! Plus, in honor of the brave individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, as well as those who generously donate blood, we extend an offer for a complimentary, exclusive Blood Donor dog tag tailored to your blood type.
YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO DONATE IF YOU:
- Are in general good health.
- Are 16 years of age or older. Individuals under the age of 18 must provide a signed parental/guardian permission form.
- Weigh at least 120 pounds.
- Have not made a whole blood, double red cell, platelet or plasma donation prior to becoming eligible.
- Have normal blood pressure, pulse, temperature and hemoglobin screenings.
- Are not pregnant.
- Do not have a cold.
- Are not under a doctor’s care for any serious illness or injury.
- Ability to read donor materials and communicate with staff in English.
FDA Update on Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (cVJD)
The FDA has removed the deferral recommendation for individuals associated with geographic risk of vCJD, commonly referred to as Mad Cow Disease, for time spent in the United Kingdom (U.K.) from 1980-1996; time spent in France and Ireland from 1980-2001; and receipt of a blood transfusion in the U.K., France, or Ireland from 1980-present.
