Memorial Day and the Need for Blood

LifeServe Blood Center is asking community members to show their support for local heroes this Memorial Day weekend.

Memorial Day is an occasion for honoring military members who paid the ultimate price in service of their country. Everyday citizens are able to give back in honor of those brave women and men in a small yet impactful way by giving their own gift of life.

The need for blood donations increases during the summer, but unfortunately vacations and outdoor activities cause an annual dip in donations. Memorial Day weekend is one of the least attended blood drive days of the entire year. We’re seeking to change that this year! All LifeServe Blood Center donor centers will be open May 24 and 25 for a Military Appreciation Blood Drive. This blood drive aims to honor active duty military as well as veterans while providing much needed blood donations to community hospitals.

The Military Appreciation Blood Drive will take place in Ames, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown, Mason City, Sioux City, and Urbandale on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25.

Donors who roll up a sleeve to give the gift of life and show their support will be eligible to order a limited edition t-shirt from the LifeServe online store for just 200 points! Donors earn online store points with very donation.
