Americans Urged to Donate Blood in the Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey Impact Blood Supply – Donations Needed Urgently

DES MOINES, IA (September 12, 2017) – LifeServe is the SOLE provider of blood and blood products to 120 local hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. After ensuring the local hospitals have the blood products they need, LifeServe helps support blood centers across the country that may not be able to support their own community blood needs. Since Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, LifeServe has sent more than 150 blood products to the Texas and Florida areas.

With some blood centers in Texas, Louisiana and Florida having blood collections impacted with recovery efforts, many blood collection agencies in the U.S. are making every effort to meet the emergency blood needs of patients and ensure a sufficient blood supply in storm affected areas. LifeServe Blood Center is encouraging individuals to give blood to ensure its ability to help those in the impacted areas.

“LifeServe will continue to support the needs of patients in these impacted areas as much as possible. In addition to ensuring our local hospitals have an adequate blood supply, we will need to see an increase in blood donors in the coming days and weeks to meet the immediate and future needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma”, said Stacy Sime, President/CEO of LifeServe Blood Center.

LifeServe is calling on the community to roll up their sleeve and give as soon as they can. Community members giving this precious gift know their donation is going to a friend or family member, another community member or someone in urgent need. One donation can help save three lives!
